Sterling Ruby is a major presence within the field of contemporary art. Ruby’s sculptures, paintings, collage and film works serve as both monuments of suggested transformation and destruction via an aesthetic of Los Angeles filtered through an academic view of 20th century art. Often grotesque in form, frequently grand in scale, Ruby manages to forge from a decidedly aggressive and physical process objects often classically sublime in nature. Ruby has presented solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2008), FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims, France and Centre D’Art Contemporain, Geneva (2012) travelling to Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rome, Italy (2013) and most recently, at Winterpalais, Belvedere Museum. Vienna (2016).
