Annette KELM

“Gingko”, 2019, archival pigment print, 75 x 56 cm, framed © Annette Kelm

Annette Kelm is at the forefront of an unnamed movement consisting of younger artists working in a manner at once medium specific (photography) and conceptual in nature. Kelm utilizes a wide range of photographic techniques in a counter-intuitive manner; the awkwardness of her images heightened through the presentation -both present visually as well as through culturally embedded subtext- of juxtaposition. Neither overly formal nor particularly expressive, Kelm’s photographs nonetheless maintain no pretense towards a neutral or photographic-objective point of view. Recent major solo exhibitions include Kunsthalle Wien (2018), Kestner Gesellschaft, Hanover (2017); Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld, Germany (2015) and Kunsthalle Zurich (2009).
