Christopher WOOL

"Not Schatzi (P456)", 2004, enamel on linen, 203.2 x 152.4 cm

Christopher Wool is the quintessential contemporary painter. His approach – though steeped in process and self-reflexive mediation – has yielded a body of work which is cool yet counter to expectation, intensely expressive. In addition to paintings, the gallery exhibited Wool’s photo-series East Broadway Breakdown. Considered in relation to the photo-graphic, a foundation of the Taka Ishii Gallery program, Wool’s work serves as a bridge to contemporary considerations – blurring clear distinctions between media.
