Lisa Lapinski’s practice relies upon an idiosyncratic logic of formal manipulation. Weaving in-and-out of reference, playing upon a barely there border between syntax and semantics, Lapinski has created a distinct sculptural vocabulary. Informed by highly personal and more generally considered – however rarified – narratives, Lapinski’s works avoid the overly-cryptic and are ultimately rewardingly humorous. Lapinski, currently head of the sculpture department at the USC Roski School of Fine Arts, presented a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2008).
