Location: Taka Ishii Gallery New York
Gallery talk by Dr. Yasufumi Nakamori

We are pleased to announce a special talk by Dr. Yasufumi Nakamori, Associated Curator of Photography, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, presented in conjunction with our current exhibition, Tatsuo Kawaguchi: Land and Sea 1970 and For a New World to Come: Experiments in Japanese Art and Photography, 1968-1979, a museum show exhibited jointly at Japan Society Gallery and NYU Grey Art Gallery in New York. On view at the exhibition at Taka Ishii Gallery New York are 24 vintage photographs printed by the artist in 1970. A variant of this series is concurrently on view as part of the museum exhibition at Japan Society Gallery.
Tatsuo Kawaguchi’s Land and Sea is a photographic record of the site specific installation made out of four wooden planks, cut from a single log, and floated along the shore over three days at Suma Beach, Kobe, in April 1970. A larger version of these images, printed on 26 panels for the seminal 10th Tokyo Biennale, titled Between Man and Matter, was exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in 1970.

A reception will follow.
