Gallery talk by Dr. Miwako Tezuka

We are pleased to announce a special talk by Dr. Miwako Tezuka, Gallery Director of Japan Society, presented in conjunction with our current exhibition, Shozo Kitadai: Forms of Experiment & Imagination, and Shashin Symposium: Photography from Japan. The presentation will include a rare film screening of Unknown World, 1953, an 8 minute 46 second auto-slide* film by Jikken Kobo (Experimental Workshop), a post-war Japanese avant-garde art group, representing the highly collaborative aspect of this collective. This is the first time the film will be shown in the United States. A reception will follow. Auto-slide is an apparatus developed by Sony’s predecessor, Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo, in which slides and sound are synchronized and projected.
